Cylinders Blocks # 1, 2, 3 and 4 Montessori
How to use the Montessori "Blocks of Cylinders" teaching material:
There are 4 Blocks
- a block progression in height,
- a block progression in diameter,
- a block progression increasing in height and decreasing in diameter,
- and finally a block progression in height and diameter.
Here's how to present them to your child:
The blocks are presented one after the other on a table or carpet.
Your child must first remove all the cylinders in order to put them back correctly. He must take them with the small buttons that overhang each cylinder. As soon as he succeeds in making the block of cylinder n ° 1, one introduces him the second, then the 3rd and finally the 4th. Then when he knows how to do them separately, he is proposed two at a time (arranged in V), then three (arranged in a triangle) and finally the four (arranged in a square).
In Montessori pedagogy, the adult (guide) first presents the material to the child. Then, it is the child's turn to exercise. The child will be led to repeat the same action several times.
Here is an example of embedding to practice with your child:
- Start with the cylinder block # 1
- Take out the cylinders from left to right with 3 fingers.
- Put them at random in front of the cylinder block.
- Watch the embedding.
- Store the cylinders in descending order.
- Wear the solid embedding with the thumb placed in front and the 4 fingers placed behind.
- Same presentation for recesses 2, 3 and 4
The great interest is that:
If you put a cylinder in too large a cavity, it disappears.
If a cylinder is placed in a too small cavity, it protrudes.
Thus, the activity is self-corrective (great principle of Montessori pedagogy).
Finally, you can propose to do the blocks with your eyes closed.
There, we are really in the sensations! You will have fun with these blocks of cylinders to do it with a lot of fun !!
Description: The cylinder blocks represent solids in 3 dimensions (height and radius squared).
With the cylinder block # 1, the height and radius vary. The variation is constant and 0.5cm both in height and diameter.
With the block of cylinders No. 2, the height remains constant, only the radius varies, constantly, from the finest to the widest.
With the block of cylinders No. 3, the height decreases while the radius increases. The variation is from the largest and thinner to the smaller and wider.
With the block of cylinders No. 4, the height increases while the radius remains the same. The variation is from the smallest to the largest.
Direct goal: the cylinder blocks are a first introduction to the visual discrimination of the dimensions.
Age:> 3 years
Size: 15.2 x 3.5 x 4cm
